Privacy Policy
Last updated 15 October 2026
Under The Influence is a party game for iPhone and Android run by Matej Pribanić, Croatia ("we"), who is responsible for the data described here. This policy explains what the app collects and why. Short version: there's no account, your players, photos, custom prompts and game history stay on your phone, usage statistics are only sent if you say yes, and what we do collect is tied to a random install ID, not to you.
What stays on your phone
- Players and player names, game history, stats and drink picks. Stored only on your device. Delete the app and they're gone.
- Photos. Group photos you take stay on your phone. They're saved to your photo library only when you tap Save, and shared only when you choose to share them yourself.
- Custom prompts. Stored only on your device. Their text never leaves your phone; we never see what you write.
- Device backups. If you have iCloud Backup (iPhone) or Google's automatic backup (Android) turned on, your phone's backup may include the app's on-device data. Those backups are run by Apple or Google under their own terms and we can't read them.
What we collect
- Usage statistics (only after you opt in). The app asks once whether you want to share anonymous usage data. Nothing is sent and the analytics service isn't even started until you agree, and you can switch it off anytime in Settings → Privacy → Share usage data. If you agree, the app sends events about how the game is played: which categories are picked, how many players are in a game, how long a card stays on screen, which of our cards are rated, played or skipped, drinks logged (type, size and strength), game length, when a game is shared or a photo taken (not the photo), paywall views and purchase events (plan chosen, purchase completed, cancelled or failed, restore), whether you have Top Shelf and which plan, plus app version, operating system and version, and device model. For custom prompts we only count that one was added and its length, never the text. Events are tied to an anonymous device ID, a random ID created by the app, not your advertising ID. We use PostHog (EU servers, Frankfurt) to process them.
- Card ratings. When you tap 👍 or 👎 on one of our cards, we store the card, your vote, your platform (iOS or Android) and a random install ID so each phone only counts once. This is stored with Supabase (EU servers, Frankfurt). To stop scripts from flooding the ratings, the server also keeps a salted, one-way hash of your IP address (never the address itself) with a count of ratings per hour. These hashes are deleted automatically after 2 days.
- Downloading cards. The app downloads new cards from our server (Supabase, EU). Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, which keeps it in short-lived server logs for security and troubleshooting. We don't use it to identify you.
We don't collect your name, email, contacts, location or photos, we don't use advertising IDs, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your data for advertising.
Purchases
Top Shelf subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) on iPhone and by Google (Google Play) on Android. We never see your payment details, name, Apple ID or Google account. The app only learns from the store whether you have an active subscription and which plan. Cancellations and refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under its own policies.
Why we use it (legal basis)
- Usage statistics: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time in Settings → Privacy. Withdrawing doesn't affect what was sent before.
- Card ratings and the IP hash used to throttle abuse: our legitimate interest in improving the cards and keeping the ratings honest (Art. 6(1)(f)). You can object at any time (see Your rights); you can also simply not rate cards.
- Content downloads and server logs: needed to deliver the cards you use (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Purchase status: needed to give you what you paid for (Art. 6(1)(b)).
How long we keep it
Usage statistics are kept for up to 24 months. Ratings are kept while the card they belong to is in the game. IP hashes for rating throttling are deleted after 2 days. Server logs are deleted after a few days.
Who we share it with
Only with the service providers that run the app for us, under data processing agreements: PostHog (analytics, EU) and Supabase (database and hosting, EU). Apple and Google process your purchases, and any device backups, under their own privacy policies. Data is stored in the EU; if a provider accesses it from outside the EU, this is covered by the EU's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete or export data about you, to restrict its use, or object to it. Because we only know a random install ID, we may need you to tell us that ID or the approximate time you used the app; the easiest route is to switch off "Share usage data" and delete the app, which ends all collection. Write to matej.pribanic1@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Croatian data protection authority (AZOP, azop.hr) or the authority where you live.
Age
Under The Influence is only for adults of legal drinking age where they live, and never for anyone under 18. The app asks you to confirm your age before you play. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will be pointed out in the app.
